Pyramid of Cheops
The Pyramid of Cheops, also known as the Great Pyramid of Giza or the Great Pyramid of Khufu, is the oldest and largest of the Giza pyramids. This pyramid was built in the reign of Cheops, or Khufu, between 3000 and 2500 before Christ. With a height of nearly
150 meters, is built with stones of about ten
meters. Its condition is very good. The stones were transported down the Nile
River to the nearby shores of the pyramid where they built roads to mobilize
those stones. The work was done by hundreds of men, as it was very difficult to
transport and placement of these stones.
It is the oldest of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World and the only one that survives. Its architect was Hemiunu.
About the interior of the pyramid, it consists of three main chambers, two located in the interior of the pyramid, now called the Chamber of the King and the Chamber of the Queen, and one in the basement, the Underground Chamber.
The Great Gallery is a large passenger with plane walls up to a height of eight feet, and from there, staggered, forming a false vault. The Chamber of the King is built with granite slabs and is rectangular, smooth walls and ceiling, without decoration, and only contains an empty granite sarcophagus, without inscriptions, deposited there during the construction of the pyramid. The Chamber of the Queen is not where the king's wife is, but a Ka statue of himself. Ka is one of the elements of the human being according to the belief of Ancient Egypt which means life force, what differentiates a living person of a dead person. The Underground Chamber contains two dwellings, like sarcophagi, a well, and a small gallery. Finally, of each real chamber start two inclined channels, in the north and south walls, called ventilation channels.
The pyramids are part of the funerary architecture of Ancient Egypt. The pyramid reaches its type defined with the pharaohs of the IV Dynasty, Khufu, Khafre and Menkaure. The burial chamber sometimes goes underground into the pyramid, which give access to labyrinthine corridors. But the pyramids are part of a set of accessory buildings, such as temples and sphinxes.
Along the Nile River, the Egyptian civilization is formed. It is a civilization with its own personality. The religious conception and divine concept of royalty determine the creation of an official art, around beyond. The history of Egyptian art is usually divided into many stages as its history. It is said that it started in 3300 before Christ, until 395 before Christ, according to the historical divisions.
In conclusion, the Pyramid of Cheops is one of the most impressive buildings in the history of art. It is a monumental tomb, and is a legacy of antiquity that will last forever in the history of mankind. I have even read out there that artworks like the pyramids are something stupid, and wanted to quote in this conclusion, because it angered me. Art serves to show the beauty. Art is a representation of feelings, ideas, thoughts, culture. Art takes in what the people and history lived. And pyramids are something unique about the Egyptian culture, something beautiful, that has been done with more or less violence, everyone who took part in this construction should be commended for their contribution to this great masterpiece.
This pyramid is on the outskirts of Cairo, in Egypt.
