Ballad of the North Henan Province by Liu Wenjin
The piece Ballad of the North Henan Province is a musical piece composed by Chinese composer Liu Wenjin in the XX century.
It is a piece for piano and erhu vibrant and quite important within the cultural panorama of China. There are parts where the erhu gives the sadness that the sound of the instrument itself produces, but other parts full of life and joy. It is an artwork that the Chinese population has in their hearts. The piano makes the supporting role, but also has solo moments, and it’s very complicated.
We should add that this artwork was composed in youth of the composer, and is one of the first pieces for erhu erhu combined with piano of this author. Liu Wenjin was born in China in 1937. He was one of the most prominent Chinese composers. He wrote instrumentals, vocal, choral and dance music. He also composed the soundtrack to several television programs. He died in 2013.
Ballad of the North Henan Province by Liu Wenjin is undoubtedly one of the Chinese traditional music compositions that most I love. The first time I heard it I fell in love both music and the sound of the erhu, and was one of the reasons why I bought my beloved erhu. The erhu performer photo is Yu Hongmei. Below is the video of this fantastic interpretation of this masterpiece.
